The captain of the Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, has been punished for a slow over-rate that was observed during the match of their current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur against Gujarat Titans.
This resulted in him playing too slowly, and taking too much break between deliveries so the match could not end on time.
The fine sum was Rs 12 lakh. And Rajasthan has been fined for this for the first time in the current IPL season.
Though Samson was a star, scoring a marvelous 68 runs in 38 balls, Rajasthan Royals ended up losing the game by just three wickets.
It turned out to be a keen contest, as Gujarat had 73 runs to chase in the last 30 balls. At last, Titans triumphed over the other team with an over boundary on the last ball.
While Samson admitted the Gurujat Titans as a whole delivered a very well-rounded performance, he also expressed his sadness about the loss.
“To be honest, it is very hard to speak at this moment. The captain has the hardest job in the league to speak after losing the game,” Samson emphasized during the post-match.
In the game, Rajasthan posted 196/3 in their 20 overs winning the match mainly on the back of Samson and Parag’s great knocks who scored 76 and 61 runs respectively.
This penalty is a vivid testimony that the Indian Premier League (IPL) does not joke with rules to ensure games are fair and on time.
This one will remain a guiding principle for Rajasthan as they are gearing themselves against Punjab Kings on April 13. Gujarat Titans have a short rest before they face off against Delhi Capitals on April 17.
