The Devil Wears Prada’ star Anne Hathaway recalls her staggering experience of kissing 10 different men in a single day for “chemistry testing!” This was a bizarre sort of audition practice in the 2000s where actors were asked to kiss and make out with different actors to test their chemistry. Hathaway said that she was desperate to act and hence felt the need to go with the unconventional work ethic.
Anne Hathaway’s describes her kissing experience as “gross”
While recalling her experience of kissing 10 different men in a single day, Hathway said she felt “gross”. She recalled that when she walked into the sets, she was informed that 10 guys were coming for the audition and she had to kiss all of them one by one. She said that she felt that it was “gross” but still pretended to act excited.
However, Anne also remarked that it wasn’t a power trip in the industry and nobody was trying to \hurt her, rather it was how things worked back in the day.
Anne Hathaway’s method to choose a co-star
Years later, when Hathaway became a producer for her movie “The Idea of You”, she chose a fun approach to casting. In the film, she plays the role of a single mother who falls in love with a man younger than her age. Recalling the audition, Anne says that she didn’t need to “kiss a bunch of 20-something-year-old men” to find her ideal co-star. Instead, she asked the actors who came to audition to sing a song they felt the characters would love.
“[A song] that they would put on to get my character to dance, and then we’d do a short little improv,” Anne clarified.
Nicholas Galitzine was selected for the role finally.
“We had met several young men already, but I remember laughing when Nick walked in because he was so ridiculously perfect for the part. I just thought he was it,” recalled Anne.
The Idea of You was released last month and will be streaming on Prime Video worldwide on May 2, 2024.
