China: Tornado Kills One, Injures 79 in Shandong Province

A tornado swept through China’s eastern province of Shandong on Friday, resulting in one fatality and injuries to scores of others. Authorities reported that 79 people were taken to hospitals with varying degrees of injuries in Dongming County.

Details of the Incident

The tornado tore through the town, uprooting trees and ripping off store signs, as captured in videos shared on state media. Large amounts of debris swirled in the air, causing widespread damage, reported ABC News.

Assessment and Warnings

Officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the tornado. The China Meteorological Administration had issued a tornado warning for parts of Shandong and neighboring Jiangsu province ahead of the severe weather event.
