In a televised address to the nation, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced that the interim government, headed by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, will take oath at 8:00 pm on Thursday⁴. General Waker also mentioned that the advisory council may consist of 15 members.

Yunus, an 84-year-old economist, was appointed as the head of the interim government by President Mohammed Shahabuddin. This appointment followed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure from the country due to protests against her government’s controversial quota system in jobs⁴.

General Waker expressed hope that Yunus would lead Bangladesh through a “beautiful democratic process” that benefits the people. Meanwhile, Yunus himself stated that he looked forward to helping the country overcome its current turbulence⁴.
