Arshad Nadeem, the Pakistani javelin thrower, made history during the Paris 2024 Olympics. In the javelin final at the Stade de France, he shattered the Olympic record with an incredible throw of 92.97 meters to win the first gold medal for his country.
This remarkable achievement surpassed the previous record of 90.57 meters set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Arshad’s performance not only secured his place in the record books but also positioned him to end Pakistan’s long-standing Olympic medal drought. Neeraj Chopra, the defending champion from India, also put up a strong fight, landing a throw at 89.45 meters.
The 27-year-old from Mian Channu, in Pakistan’s Punjab province, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, launching the javelin to an Olympic record distance on his second attempt in the final.
He tweeted about his achievement and thanked Allah for the huge success. He wrote, “First of all, I thank Allah Almighty for this huge success, with the prayers of my parents, prayers of the entire nation and especially the tireless effort of my coach Mr. Salman Iqbal Butt and the support of Dr. Ali Sher Bajwa, I have achieved this massive milestone. Thank you All! Lastly, This Gold medal is a gift from me to the entire nation on the occasion of Independence Day.”
