Gujarat has been grappling with severe floods following days of relentless rainfall. The death toll has risen to 28, with 17,800 people evacuated from flood-affected areas across the state.

“The situation is dire,” said Alok Pandey, the state relief commissioner. “We are working round the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected residents.”

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts, predicting more heavy rainfall in the coming days. “We urge everyone to stay indoors and avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary,” advised an IMD spokesperson.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the central government of full support. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide all necessary assistance to the state,” he stated during a phone call with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The major affected districts in Gujarat due to the recent floods include:

  • Surat
  • Vadodara
  • Rajkot
  • Dwarka
  • Junagadh
  • Navsari

These areas have experienced significant flooding, leading to evacuations and extensive damage.

Rescue operations are in full swing, with the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams deployed across the state“Our teams have rescued over 95 people so far,” said NDRF inspector Manjit, reported The Hindustan Times.

The floods have caused widespread damage, with several villages cut off and many areas submerged. “The water has entered our homes, and we have lost everything,” lamented a resident of Dwarka.

“We are committed to helping every affected individual and will continue our efforts until the situation improves,” assured Health Minister Rushikesh Patel.
