Kannada actor Darshan, currently in judicial custody at Bellary prison, has sparked controversy after allegedly showing his middle finger to the media on Thursday when he was being escorted to meet his family.
A viral video captured the moment, showing Darshan making the obscene gesture as he walked out of his cell. The footage quickly spread across social media, igniting a wave of reactions.
“This behavior is unacceptable, especially from a public figure,” said a spokesperson for the prison. “We are investigating the incident and will take appropriate action.”
Darshan’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, who visited him along with his brother Dinakar and two lawyers, expressed her concern over the media’s portrayal of the incident. “Darshan is under immense stress due to the ongoing legal battle. We request the media to respect our privacy during these difficult times,” she stated.
The actor has been in custody for over two months, facing charges related to the murder of Renuka Swamy. His transfer to Bellary prison from Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara prison was prompted by a previous controversy involving leaked photos and videos.
“We have immense faith in the judicial system,” Vijayalakshmi added. “Darshan is confident that the truth will prevail, and we urge his fans to remain calm and supportive.”
The incident has divided public opinion, with some defending Darshan’s actions as a reaction to the relentless media scrutiny, while others condemn his behavior as inappropriate and disrespectful.
As the investigation continues, the prison authorities have assured that they will address the matter with the seriousness it deserves. “We are committed to maintaining discipline and order within the prison,” the spokesperson reiterated.
For now, Darshan remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings. The actor’s legal team is preparing to challenge the charges, hoping to clear his name and restore his reputation.
“This too shall pass. Truth will triumph,” Vijayalakshmi concluded, echoing the sentiments of Darshan’s supporters.
