A Kolkata-based actress has lodged a formal complaint against renowned Bengali director Arindam Sil, accusing him of kissing her without consent during a film shoot. The incident reportedly occurred on April 3 at a resort off NH-117 during the filming of a movie.
The actress filed an FIR under sections 354 (using force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 509 (insulting a woman’s modesty through words or gestures) of the Indian Penal Code. She detailed the incident in her statement, stating, “Given the criminal nature of his actions, I decided to lodge an FIR to ensure that he faces exemplary punishment. On April 3, he touched me inappropriately and kissed me on my cheek even though the scene he was describing did not even involve a kiss. Rather, it was meant to be shot in a manner that merely implied one”.
The actress elaborated on the discomfort she experienced during the shoot, mentioning that a co-actor’s inappropriate jokes exacerbated the situation. “To exacerbate the situation, my co-actor began making sexually explicit and tasteless jokes, further contributing to my discomfort. When I mustered the courage to confront the director about his behavior, he dismissively mocked me, saying, ‘Oh, didn’t you like it?’ I was appalled that someone could have the audacity to comment this way”.
In response to the allegations, Arindam Sil has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. “I am not insane to do such a thing in front of everyone. I have numerous witnesses, from my DOP to my assistant directors,” Sil stated. He expressed frustration over the media’s portrayal of the incident and the actress’s decision to escalate the matter on social platforms. “I have faith in the judicial system and have proof of my innocence.”
