Rumors have been swirling about Sharma’s potential exit from MI, especially after he was replaced by Hardik Pandya as the team’s captain last season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to finalize the retention policies for the upcoming auction, adding to the uncertainty surrounding Sharma’s future.
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have expressed keen interest in acquiring Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction.
Sanjay Bangar, PBKS Director of Cricket Operations, did not shy away from acknowledging the franchise’s interest in Sharma. “Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished players in the IPL. His leadership and batting prowess make him a prime target for any team looking to strengthen their squad,” Bangar stated. However, he also emphasized that any move for Sharma would be contingent on the funds in the team’s purse.
The Punjab Kings, co-owned by Bollywood star Preity Zinta, are looking for a new skipper to lead the team next season. With Ricky Ponting recently joining as the head coach, the franchise is looking to build a formidable team capable of clinching its maiden IPL title.
A Strategic Move for PBKS
Acquiring Sharma would be a strategic move for PBKS, providing them with a seasoned leader and a top-order batsman who can anchor the innings. “Rohit’s potential entry into the auction is expected to ignite fierce bidding wars among franchises,” Bangar added.
