The second cricket Test match between India and Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur, began on Friday, September 26, 2024, with a delayed toss due to a wet outfield caused by overnight rain.
Bangladesh’s score was 42/2 after 12 overs.
Rohit Sharma Wins the Toss
India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, won the toss and opted to bowl first under overcast skies. This decision marks a rare occurrence, as it is only the second time in 24 Tests at Green Park that a team has chosen to bowl first. The last instance was in 1964 when India sent England into bat.
Team Lineups
India fielded an unchanged XI from their dominant performance in the first Test in Chennai, where they secured a comprehensive 280-run victory.
Bangladesh made two changes to their lineup, bringing in medium pacer Khaled Ahmed and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam in place of Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana.

On his decision to bowl first, Rohit Sharma said, “The surface has a little softness and a bit more grass than usual. We expect our seamers to make good use of these conditions.”
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Bangladesh captain, expressed confidence in his team’s ability to bat first, stating, “We wanted to bat anyway. We have a balanced side with three spinners and two quicks, which should help us adapt to the conditions.”
