Alabama’s freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams delivered a stunning 75-yard touchdown catch to secure a dramatic 41-34 victory over Georgia. The game, held at Bryant-Denny Stadium, saw Alabama nearly squander a 28-0 lead before Williams’ electrifying play turned the tide.
With just over two minutes remaining and Alabama trailing 34-33, quarterback Jalen Milroe connected with Williams on a perfectly placed pass. Williams, showcasing his agility and speed, executed a spin move to evade Georgia defenders and sprinted to the end zone, igniting the home crowd.
“I can’t get tackled,” he said late Saturday night. “I just had to do my part in helping us finish that game,” Williams said. “We’d come too far. Somebody had to make a play.”
The touchdown culminated in a standout performance by Williams, who finished the game with six catches for 177 yards. His heroics didn’t end there; earlier in the game, he made a crucial 54-yard catch that set up a field goal, demonstrating his reliability in high-pressure situations.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, who threw the decisive pass, praised Williams’ performance. “He’s only going to get better, and the best thing about him is that he’s always working, always doing something to become a better player,” Milroe said. “The work in the dark that not everyone sees.”
Coach Kalen DeBoer highlighted the team’s resilience and poise. “That’s the standard at Alabama, and it just filters down to the players, to everybody,” DeBoer said. “We knew we had to stay calm and execute, and that’s exactly what we did.”
Williams finished the game with six catches for 177 yards, reported ESPN.
Georgia ranked No. 2, had mounted a fierce comeback, taking their first lead of the game with a 67-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck to Dillon Bell. However, Alabama’s defense held firm in the final moments, with freshman Zabien Brown intercepting a pass in the end zone to seal the victory.
Alabama’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, praised his team’s poise and resilience, particularly highlighting his young stars’ contributions. “Ryan and Zabien showed incredible maturity and composure. They made plays when we needed them the most,” DeBoer said.
