The ANCHOR program is designed to provide much-needed financial support to New Jersey residents facing economic challenges. The program replaces the previous Homestead Benefit and offers higher payouts to a broader range of residents.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the ANCHOR program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Homeowners:
Must have been a New Jersey resident and owned and occupied a home in New Jersey as their principal residence on October 1, 2021. The 2021 property taxes must have been paid on that home, and the 2021 New Jersey gross income must not exceed $250,000.
Renters:
Must have been a New Jersey resident, rented and occupied a residence in New Jersey as their principal residence on October 1, 2021, and paid rent. The rental property must have been subject to local property taxes, and the 2021 New Jersey gross income must not exceed $150,000.
Application Process
Eligible residents must apply for the ANCHOR benefit by November 30, 2024. The New Jersey Division of Taxation started distributing payments in early October, and most applicants are expected to receive their payments within 90 days of applying.
