The 6th World Media Summit officially commenced on Monday in Urumqi, the capital city of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The event, themed “Artificial Intelligence and Media Transformation,” has drawn over 500 representatives from 208 media organizations, government bodies, and international institutions across 106 countries.
In his opening remarks, the President of Xinhua News Agency, Cai Mingzhao, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in media. “Artificial intelligence is not just a tool but a driving force that will reshape the future of media,” he stated. “This summit provides a platform for global media to share insights and collaborate on harnessing AI for the betterment of society.”
Throughout the summit, attendees will have the opportunity to explore various cultural and historical sites in Xinjiang.
On Tuesday, participants visited the Kizil Grotto in Aksu, where they marveled at the ancient Buddhist murals. “The Kizil Grotto is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Xinjiang,” said Maria Rodriguez, a journalist from Spain. “It’s fascinating to see how history and art converge in this region.”
Another summit highlight was the visit to Sayram Lake, where attendees engaged with local performers. “Dancing by the Sayram Lake with the local artists was an unforgettable experience,” remarked John Smith, a media executive from the United States. “Moments like these remind us of the power of cultural exchange.”
The summit also included a tour of an auto company in Urumqi, showcasing the region’s advancements in technology and industry.
“Xinjiang is rich in culture and innovation,” noted Chinese media representative Li Wei. “The blend of tradition and modernity here is truly inspiring.”
