Indian Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi has publicly distanced himself from his brother, Gopal Joshi, who is currently embroiled in a cheating case. The Minister emphasized that they have been estranged for over thirty years and have no social or financial ties.
The controversy arose after an FIR was filed against Gopal Joshi, accusing him of promising a BJP ticket in exchange for money. In response, Pralhad Joshi reiterated his long-standing separation from his brother. “I and the said Gopal V. Joshi have separated for more than 20 years. In this connection, we have executed a family arraignment deed or Vaivastha Patra on March 17, 2012,” Joshi stated, reading from an affidavit.
Joshi further clarified, “Therefore, we do not constitute any joint family status, and we do not carry out any joint socially and financially. We do not live together. I am not at all connected with him in any manner or with his profession and transaction.”

The Minister also addressed misconceptions about his family structure, stating, “At the outset, I would like to point out a glaring mistake in the FIR stating that someone by the name of Vijaylakshmi is my sister. This is highly nonfactual as I don’t have any sister”.
Joshi concluded by reaffirming his disassociation from his brother: “I have had no connection whatsoever with my brother, Mr. Gopal Joshi, for the last 32 years”.
This clarification comes amid ongoing investigations into the allegations against Gopal Joshi, who, along with a woman named Vijayalakshmi Joshi, has been accused of defrauding a former JD(S) MLA’s wife.
