Federal investigators have launched an “interagency operation” at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, where Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently incarcerated. This move comes amid increasing scrutiny over the jail’s conditions and safety issues.
“Our goal is to maintain a safe environment for both our employees and the incarcerated individuals housed at MDC Brooklyn,” stated the Bureau of Prisons in a release1. The operation involves multiple federal agencies, including the Justice Department’s inspector general’s office.
The MDC has been plagued by reports of horrific conditions, rampant violence, and multiple deaths. Last month, federal prosecutors charged nine inmates in connection with a series of violent incidents from April to August, including two stabbings and an attack with a makeshift icepick.

“The criminal charges offer a window into the violence and dysfunction that has plagued the jail,” noted a spokesperson for the Justice Department3. The facility, which houses about 1,200 detainees, has long been criticized for severe staffing shortages and the widespread smuggling of drugs and other contraband, reported The Independent.
Prison officials have declined to provide specific details about the ongoing operation, citing the need to maintain the safety and security of all personnel inside the facility “There is no active threat,” assured the Bureau of Prisons.
