Ninth Police Shooting Incident in Four Months Robbery Suspects Shot

On Sunday, the Hubli City Crime Branch (CCB) police shot two robbery accused in the legs during an escape attempt at Gabbur, near Hubli. The accused, Bharatkumar alias Kutta (31) and Farooq alias Tomato Farooq (46), were arrested in connection with a robbery on November 8, which involved Rs 7 lakh and four mobile phones.

Escape Attempt and Police Response

While being taken to retrieve hidden weapons, Bharatkumar and Farooq attacked the police officers. In response, the CCB officers fired at the accused, injuring both in the legs.  This is not the first time this kind of shooting incident has happened in Hubli city.

Injuries Sustained

Three officers, including PSI Swathi Murari and constables Mahantesh Madar and Srikanth Tallur, sustained injuries during the altercation. All injured individuals were admitted to KMC-RI for treatment.

Background of the Accused

Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar noted that Bharatkumar has been involved in multiple robberies across Karnataka and other states. The police have dispatched teams to trace other suspects connected to these crimes.

Pattern of Police Action

This incident marks the ninth time in four months that police have fired on accused individuals involved in serious crimes. The increasing frequency of such incidents raises concerns about the safety of both law enforcement officers and the public.
