New iPhone Leak Reveals Apple’s Design Choices.
The released images show the layout of this year’s new iPhone SE, which is the first mid-range Apple smartphone in three years. The latest scoop comes from longtime Apple leaker Sonny Dickson. His exclusive images represent Apple’s fifth-generation iPhone SE design. Apple released the last iPhone SE model in 2022 and plans to launch the successor. It will run on iOS, in the first half of 2025. In the images presented by Dickson, we can see two of the so-called ‘blanks’ that Apple usually provides to peripherals and accessory makers before a launch.
This enables the manufacturers to operate on a device with the right dimensions, button placements and controls as the handset. Of course, Apple prefers this scenario as it can hide the actual details and software from view and control. Nevertheless, the blanks allow us to examine Apple’s approach to design and its implications for SE.
As reported in Forbes it is also very easy to see the controls and ports on the right-hand side of the iPhone SE. A tangible SIM card slot is at the lowest end of the spectrum. Above that is another button, and there are two volume control buttons, and above them is the familiar mute button. Apple has removed this switch from newer iPhone models in favour of a customizable Action Button.
Apple took that idea further by adding the Camera Control capacitive button to the iPhone 16 range, but neither feature seems to have been added to the iPhone SE design. However, the older toggle switch used to mute the iPhone is coming back instead. The iPhone SE was advertised to be cheaper than a regular iPhone at the time of its launch. It is just the material cost of a capacitive-style button would be far higher than the cost of an old-school switch.
