University of Karachi Implements New Dress Code Policy
The University of Karachi has introduced a new dress code policy requiring students to wear clean, modest, and respectful clothing on campus. Dr. Nosheen Raza, the Students’ Advisor, issued the notification on January 14, 2025, outlining the expectations for student attire.
Prohibited Attire and Guidelines
The notification specifies that students are prohibited from wearing attire deemed provocative, offensive, or distracting.
This includes revealing or see-through clothing, shorts, sleeveless or tight-fitting garments, and clothing featuring objectionable language or graphics. Additionally, casual slippers, such as flip-flops, are also banned within the university premises.
Maintaining a Respectful Academic Environment
Dr. Nosheen Raza explained that the dress code aims to maintain a respectful and modest academic environment. She emphasized that the guidelines aim to foster a conducive atmosphere for learning while promoting respect for academic norms and values.
Routine Notifications for Student Discipline
Dr. Raza mentioned that Karachi University regularly issues notifications related to student discipline. With over 45,000 students enrolled, the university aims to ensure that all students are aware of the dress code and adhere to it. The university issued a recent notification to make new students aware of the dress code as the new academic year begins.
