Trump’s Tariff Suspension on Chinese Parcels Creates Online Shopping Chaos

After announcing to put 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada, US President Trump yet again makes bold moves on China.

Disruption of postal services

Trump has now suspended tariffs on small packages from China after the sudden order to end duty-free treatment for shipments under the $800 mark.

Due to this, the postal service of the U.S. has stopped accepting parcels from China, causing chaos for people ordering various products through online stores and websites such as Shein as the packages are now delayed or returned.

Speedy implementation causes Havoc

The order was passed and implemented in a mere 48 hours. All this started last weekend as Trump raised border taxes on goods from China by 10% and many decisions for other countries. This has caused great disruption for postal services, online retailers and customs inspection.

Putting a stop to De Minimis

As Trump repealed the De Minimis Rule, a legal term meaning matters of little importance, China is now required to apply for the formal entry process, which needs additional documents and fees, eventually slowing down the process. Even frequent shoppers are now hit with bills for duties imposed on clothes that were excluded from the tax bracket.

This implementation is till the “adequate systems are in place to fully and expediently process and collect tariff revenue” as signed by Trump himself.

Changes made since taking power

After occupying the office last month Trump has only created problems on different levels. Changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, exiting from the UN Human Rights Council (WHO), taking away the US birthright citizenship from immigrants, withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement, ending the Green New Deal, anti-abortion, changing gender equality rules and making transgender people illegal and many more that have only caused pain and suffering to the people of USA.
