Support from Political Leaders and Organizations
Several political leaders and organizations have expressed solidarity with the farmers’ cause. Pandher urged the Punjab state government to pass a resolution in support of the farmers’ demands and to address the proposed new agri-marketing policy. He also appealed to political parties to raise the issues of farmers and support their movement.
The Role of Farmer Leaders in the Movement
Farmer leaders like Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Manjit Singh Rai have played crucial roles in mobilizing support and organizing protests. Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike since November 2024, continues to advocate for the farmers’ demands. The farmers’ movement has seen significant participation from various regions, including Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh.
Future Plans and Continued Protests
The farmers have planned to resume their “Delhi Chalo” march on March 25 if their demands are not met during the next round of talks with the central government. Pandher warned against attempts to forcibly acquire farmers’ land and emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing issues.
