Assam wakes up to 6.7 magnitude earthquake, followed by 6 more

Imagine waking up to a natural calamity. Scary, isn’t it? That is exactly what happened to Assam today. The National Centre of Seismology (NCS) confirmed that the first Earthquake at 7:51 AM measured 6.7 on the Richter scale. 4 earthquakes acted as a follow-up within a few minutes, and two others followed at 10:05 am and 10:05 am, as reported by Times Now. These were less in magnitudes: 4.7, 4, 3.6, 3.6, 3.2, and 3.4. While the first 4 hit Sonitpur, the last 2 hit Nagaon and Tezpur.

Effects of the Earthquakes:

The sudden earthquakes have led to considerable destructions in the regions originating. The Central government has assured to help the State government by all means. With the regular events of natural calamities everywhere in the country since 2020 alongside a pandemic to be handled, people are almost done being homeless now due to the calamities. The pictures from different media show huge destruction due to the quake. Meanwhile, Mizoram is also experiencing a forest fire. The North East can be said to be helpless right now. The Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, was the first to tweet after the calamity, considering the situation of the entire state. He has earnestly requested his people to stay alert and has wished for their well-being. Let us hope that the Northeast tackles up the situation and cures up soon.

Other states affected:

Assam and other states in the Northeast faced the consequences of the Earthquake, too, though it is a lower scale. Low-scale tremors were thus felt in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. These effects did not escape West Bengal, too, as the Northern parts of the state felt tremors.

In Assam, the most affected are Central and Western towns like Tezpur, Nagaon, Guwahati, Mangaldoi, Dhekiajuli, and Morigaon. These parts of Assam are a ground of destruction and damaged structures where there were once buildings and other infrastructures standing. Let us all fold our hands and pray for Assam right now.
