Covishield second dose gap increased to 12-16 weeks

Covishield second dose gap increased to 12-16 weeks

According to the Central Government of India, the vaccine dosage might go through a bit of change. The new dose plan for Covishield has been passed. It directs that the dosage gap between two Covishield doses should be at least 12 to 16 weeks. This new update has been reported in detail in the Times of India. This direction has been given directly by the Union Ministry of Health. The previous directions were to take a gap of 6-8 weeks. Now the new guidelines will also give people enough time to get vaccinated and decrease the vaccine crisis due to people demanding vaccines after a period of time.

Controversies related to the increase in the gap:

The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) had previously declared the need to increase the gap between the two doses without mentioning the exact gap. Later on May 13, 2021, the exact gap became known to the public. The gap period has increased when India faces a shortage of vaccines, mostly due to people demanding their second dose and the 18-44 aged people also getting vaccinated.

This has thus shaken public views, and there is a controversy that stated that the government is taking such measures to hide or reduce the news about vaccine shortage. This rumor has been proved wrong after the government has proved that the decision has been taken after researched works and advice mostly from the UK. The emerging evidence is the cause and not any political game. So, people can trust the government entirely regarding the matter.

The vaccination updates so far:

The vaccine could be taken by pregnant women anytime after delivery. For those still pregnant, the choice depends on the woman if she wants to get vaccinated. The Covishied has gone through a variable difference in the gap period. The first doses were given at a gap of 4-6 weeks, and then the gap went to 4-8 weeks. Now the gap has been considered to be from 12-16 weeks. The Covaxin, on the other hand, has faced very little difference. It was previously administered after 28 days, and now it is administered after 4-6 weeks, thus indicating very few changes being made.
