Aaj Tak News live: ‘Extremely severe’ Cyclone Tauktae slams into Gujarat, India

The cyclone has already made landfall on the evening of Monday, May 17, 2021. After that, it weakened, as reported on Monday, May 18, 2021. There has been significant tension in the country, especially in the country’s western regions, since the news regarding the cyclone broke. Evacuation programs have already been done for a few days. According to the Hindustan Times, the cyclone Tauktae has already started to weaken.

Tauktae till now:

Several cities like Mumbai have faced waterlogging, heavy storms, and heavy rainfall due to the Tauktae hitting the coasts. The vaccination program was also halted in several parts of western India, and patients were shifted to better hospitals to guarantee health safety amidst the storm.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the eye of the cyclone hit the Saurashtra region of the Gujarat coast, between Diu and Una. The major destruction was caused on the evening of May 17 and the cyclone started developing into depression all over again, after that. It still hit Amreli in a devastating form on May 18.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the IMD are in favor of the notion that the cyclone will be over by May 18 and the country will be free again with only one disaster to fight, the second wave of the COVID.

The INS Kolkata has been reported to have saved two adrift survivors. These survivors were found on a life raft belonging to the Vara Prabha. The Indian Navy continues its search for others adrift and has till now saved 177 personnel. 40 ooo trees have been reported to have fallen and 16,500 huts destroyed due to the Tauktae.

Indian Coastguard has so far rescued 55 of the 137 crew members from ONGC barge near Vadrai in Satpati, Palghar; others are being looked for. Till now, 7 deaths have been confirmed due to Tauktae in Gujarat.

Several electric polls and trees lie broken and damaged on the muddy roads with damaged houses all around. On the other hand, Goa promises a restoration of the power supply by May 19, 2021.
