Aims of SBMU (2.0) and AMRUT (2.0)
SBM-U (2.0) envisions making all the cities clean and garbage-free. It ensures grey – all sources of wastewater from the houses except the toilet wastewater and black- contains the nutrients of urine and the pathogens of feces diluted in the flush water- water management in all the cities, except those covered under the AMRUT initiative.
This initiative will make all the urban local bodies including those with a population of less than one lakh free from the open defecation system. Hence, the vision of clean urban areas will be achieved.
AMRUT (2.0) has an aim to provide the water supply to all the households.
This initiative will cover around the 4,700 urban local bodies. This will be achieved by providing about 2.68Crores houses with tap connections and 100 percent of them having the sewerage and septage connections in 500 AMRUT cities by providing around 2.64 Crores sewer or septage connections.
These initiatives will benefit more than 10.5 Crores of people in urban areas as told by PMO. AMRUT 2.0 will promote the conservation and rejuvenation of surface and groundwater.
