Hindi action crime thriller film “Gunday” starring young heartthrobs Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor along with Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan has done an impressive start at the box-office in its first weekend.
The movie that released on February 14 2014, managed to collect Rs 16 crore on the opening day. However it is still less than the day one record of “Jai Ho” in India.
The movie which is produced by YRF, has been written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar of “Mere Brother ki Dulhan” fame.
Set in the 1970s, the chemistry of Ranveer and Arjun reminded audience of Amitabh-Dharmendra chemistry from”Sholay” earning them the tag of modern Jai-Veeru. The song “Tune Maari Entryaan” became very popular and was seen playing in every show.
The movie registered good occupancy on first Friday giving it a splendid start at the Box Office. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that the Indian collections of Gunday- Rs 16.12 cr nett in 2800 screens was fantastic.
The movie has opened well both in multiplexes and single screens across India. It managed the collections even with a lesser screen count than Salman Khan’s “Jai Ho” which was released in 4500 screens.
Taran Adarsh predicted Rs 45 cr to 50 cr in opening weekend for “Gunday”. Stay tuned here for latest updates.
