In March 2021, President Joe Biden signed the federal Child Tax Credit into law. This was one of the provisions in the American Rescue Plan. Till now, the families have received three stimulus checks.
These checks provided $1,500 to $1,800. The expanded child tax credit provided American families payments totaling either $1,500 or $1,800. However, some families were not able to receive those payments or chose not to get the money.
As the American Rescue Plan reached its first anniversary on March 11, the news about the expanded child tax credit came out. This sent direct payments of up to $1,400 per person. Some families may receive an amount of $3,600 as relief payments this year. This is possible only if they file their taxes as households across the United States.
Families who did not receive the checks
The families that qualified for the expanded child tax credit but did not receive the payment can claim their money when they file this year’s tax. Families that qualified for the expanded child tax credit but did not receive the payment would be able to claim their money when they file this year’s taxes. Families who have children below the age of six are expected to receive $3,600.
While the children between the ages of 6 and 17 will get $3,000, according to Local 12.
A single parent earning less than $112,500 annually or a married couple filing jointly making less than $150,000 yearly are qualified for this. However, the families will receive the credit according to their income. The families with higher incomes may receive a smaller credit or may be ineligible to receive the money.
The initiative by the states
Some states have taken the initiative to issue their stimulus checks for their people. In Utah, Republican Sen. Mitt Romney has proposed to revive the enhanced child tax credits. In this proposal, the families with children aged 5 and younger will receive $350. However, the families with children aged 6 to 17 will get $250.
Last night, @POTUS reiterated his request for additional COVID-19 funding. We must receive a full accounting of how the government has allocated trillions in taxpayer funds to combat the pandemic before we could even consider supporting this request. https://t.co/usJwFSU3m6

However, the people accepting the money from the expanded child tax credit would have to meet work requirements. Romney’s staff said the proposal, named the “Family Security Act,” is not introduced yet and is under negotiation.
