Dalai Lama’s Visit To Ladakh: Will This Visit Increase India-China Standoff?

Since the division of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories in August 2019, the Dalai Lama has been paying his first visit to Ladakh. He has reached Jammu and has been welcomed by Hundreds of people.  

Following this, China does not like the visit of the Dalai Lama to Ladakh because of the prolonged standoff between the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the Indian Army along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. China had strongly objected to constitutional changes in Jammu and Kashmir and carving out Ladakh as a Union Territory in August 2019.

As soon as the spiritual leader reached Jammu, he tried to send a message to China that he was not seeking complete independence of Tibet, but his motive was to preserve the culture and the meaning autonomy of Tibetan Buddhists within China.

In his speech, he also confessed that not all but some Chinese people think of him to be a separatist. He said, “Now more and more Chinese realize that Dalai Lama is not seeking independence but within China a meaningful autonomy to preserve Tibetan Buddhist culture.”

“More and more Chinese are showing interest in Tibetan Buddhism. Some Chinese scholars have realized that Tibetan Buddhism is a treasure trove of knowledge and scientific religion,” he told the reporters at Jammu.

His comments on the dispute between India and China were, “My message wherever I go is that human beings are brothers and sisters, and there is no point in fighting. ‘My country, my religion’ is too narrow an ideology. Human beings should live together in total harmony,”

As per the reports, Dalai Lama will move to Ladakh in some time and has planned to stay there for a complete month.
