AMC revealed the first look at The Walking Dead’s final eight remaining episodes ahead of its panel at San Diego Comic-Con, along with announcing a new series focused on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira).
Lincoln and Gurira surprised the crowd by appearing at the very end of the Friday panel to tease the new limited series that will launch with six episodes in 2023 and focus on their continued love story.
Executive producer Scott M. Gimple explained that the upcoming series will air in place of a planned film that he had previously teased. “We thank you for your patience, and we hope that it’s been worth it,” Gimple told fans.
Additionally, Lauren Cohan (Maggie) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negen) appeared in a pre-recorded video segment, as the two actors are currently filming their upcoming spinoff series Isle of the Dead.
“The end of Walking Dead is so near and dear to us,” Morgan said.

During the panel, Norman Reedus (Daryl) referred to the final night of shooting on The Walking Dead as “rough” and explained, “It was very emotional. The very last night of filming, there was speeches given.” He added, “People were crying and hugging.”
He also teased potential romantic scenes ahead for Daryl and Carol (Melissa McBride). “The Carol-Daryl storyline isn’t over yet,” Reedus said.
McBride remarked that some of her favorite moments from the show over the years were the quieter ones. “Seems like you learn a whole lot more about characters in those little scenes by themselves,” she said.
Season 11’s last eight episodes will begin airing Oct. 2 on AMC, and the trailer is below.
