Rumors say that the new Assassin’s Creed Rift game coming out in the near future will be nearer to the older games than the newer ones.
Ubisoft’s best-selling franchise could potentially revisit its roots in an upcoming 2023 title. Assassin’s Creed 2023 is reportedly more focused on stealth-based gameplay reminiscent of earlier AC titles.

According to Bloomberg and Eurogamer Ubisoft is planning on developing a stealth-focused Assassin’s Creed game targeting a 2023 release date. Rumor has it that the upcoming title will take place in the city of Baghdad. In addition to that, Basim, one of the main characters in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, will play a role in the upcoming game.

Initially, Ubisoft was planning on developing the new game as Valhalla’s DLC expansion. However, the devs ultimately decided to make it a standalone game considering the amount of content the expansion had. With that being said, the 2023 game will no longer be an open-world game. Instead, we should be expecting the game’s map to be as big as one of Valhalla’s regions.

If the potential title does come to fruition, fans of the classic AC gameplay will surely appreciate the game. When Assassin’s Creed made its debut back in 2007, players immediately fell in love playing the life of an Assassin. Since then, Ubisoft continuously evolved AC’s gameplay mechanics until a fully open-world title came out in 2018. Players were definitely blown away by Ubisoft’s decision to make Assassin’s Creed an open-world game.

However, somehow the gameplay change affected the essence of what an Assassin’s Creed game should be. While many players love the new open-world AC titles, there are still many players who miss the classics. Hopefully, Ubisoft sticks to the plan and gives AC fans a taste of the old days.
