Hollywood icon Robin Williams, 63, is dead due to an apparent suicide. Williams publicist Mara Buxbaum said that Williams had been “battling severe depression” and this is a tragic and sudden loss. The family is asking for their privacy as they are grieving during this very difficult time. Williams’s wife, Susan Schneider said that she lost her husband and her best friend. Williams entered rehab in July for the second time. His publicist said that it was not due to a relapse but Robin was taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his work. The actor had spoken publicly about his problem with substance abuse. After 20 years of sobriety in 2006 Williams sought treatment for alcoholism. His rep said that Robin found himself drinking again and hence he proactively decided to deal with this. During an interview with Good Morning America later, Williams explained that the addiction was not caused by anything but it is just there waiting. Robin also struggled with cocaine abuse in the early 1980s but stopped after his friend John Belushi’s fatal overdose in 1982.
