Hollywood icon Robin Williams, 63, is dead due to an apparent suicide. As per per the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, when emergency personnel reached Williams’s home in Tiburon, California, at 11:55 a.m. local time, he was found unconscious and pronounced dead. 
The death is being investigated and the initial evidence points to “a suicide due to asphyxia. Williams publicist Mara Buxbaum said that Williams had been “battling severe depression” and this is a tragic and sudden loss. The family is asking for their privacy as they are grieving during this very difficult time. Williams’s wife, Susan Schneider said that she lost her husband and her best friend. Williams entered rehab in July for the second time. His publicist said that it was not due to a relapse but Robin was taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his work. The actor had spoken publicly about his problem with substance abuse. After 20 years of sobriety in 2006 Williams sought treatment for alcoholism. His rep said that Robin found himself drinking again and hence he proactively decided to deal with this. During an interview with Good Morning America later, Williams explained that the addiction was not caused by anything but it is just there waiting. Robin also struggled with cocaine abuse in the early 1980s but stopped after his friend John Belushi’s fatal overdose in 1982. Willaims character on TV show Mork & Mindy was a big hit which ran till 1982. He made a leap to films with a string of wildly successful movies “The World According to Garp”, “Awakenings”, “Moscow on the Hudson”,”The Birdcage”, “Patch Adams”,”Mrs. Doubtfire”, “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” and “Insomnia”. He also voiced in animated features as “Aladdin”, “Happy Feet”, “Robots” and “FernGully”. 
He was nominated for Oscar for “Dead Poets Society”, “The Fisher King”, “Good Morning, Vietnam”, but finally won it with a supporting role in “Good Will Hunting”. Among his movies completed and not released yet were May’s The Angriest Man in Brooklyn and the upcoming Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. He was also part of CBS TV comedy series “The Crazy Ones” opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar.
