Senior Indian journalist/editor Rajdeep Sardesai who was part of the large media contingent that was travelling along with Indian PM Narendra Modi during his US visit, was on beaten up by a group of Modi supporters outside Madison Square Garden in New York.
Reportedly, the incident took place just before Modi was to address the 18,000 plus Indian-American community who were eagerly waiting to hear the speech of the Indian PM.
Immediately Sardesai took to Twitter and wrote, “Great crowd at Madison square garden! except a few idiots who still believe abuse is a way of proving their machismo! #ModiAtMadison”
He added, “Glad we caught the idiots on cam. Only way to shame the mob is to show them. #ModiAtMadison.”
Quickly the video of Sardesai being manhandled by the crowd went viral on Social Media and was shared on Facebook and Twiiter numerous times.
According to some reports, the organiser of the massive event at the MSG, Vijay Jolly later apologised to Sardesai for the behaviour of the public.
There are unclear reports emerging of what happened exactly when Sardesai was covering the Modi event live outside the MSG.
Some sources say that Rajdeep instead of covering the event live saying things concerned to it, was saying something anti-Modi amidst a proud pro-Modi crowd, which resulted into a scuffle.
A couple of months back, Rajdeep quit as the editor-in-chief of IBN 18 Network and had joined the TV Today Group as its editor.
