Sun News Live: Bangalore tense as Jayalalithaa bail plea hearing on

Former Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has been granted conditional bail by Karnataka high court in disproportionate assets case.

Prohibitory orders have been imposed around the Karnataka High Court premises in view of the hearing of the bail plea of J Jayalalitha.

As AIADMK supporters thronged the court premises, authorities had to invoke prohibitory orders under section 144 so that any possibility of untoward incidents is under check.

A sense of tense atmosphere prevailed all through Bangalore after a poster purportedly put up by AIADMK activists attracted public attention. The poster proclaimed that Kannadigas living in Tamil Nadu will be held hostage if Jayalalitha was not freed.

Though the general belief is that the party is behind the poster, AIADMK leaders insisted that they didn’t have anything to do with that.  The party has also said that they would initiate disciplinary action against whoever has put up the poster for cheap publicity.

The Chennai police have in the meanwhile assured Kanadigas that they will be safe. The police have also removed the posters and is set to initiate action against those behind the threat. Watch Sun News live here.

Meanwhile, in Jayalalitha’s home state widespread mobilization for support in favor of her release is being garnered by party activists.

Many people and organizations from various walks of life, including the farmer community, have come forward in support.

It is being feared that the state might see violence in an event of Jayalalitha not being granted bail. The AIADMK is of the opinion that it is anti-democratic to subvert a democratically elected government.

This view has come forth after BJP leader Subramanian Swamy called for the dismissal of Tamil Nadu government and imposition of President’s rule in the state.
