Pay issue escalates as Bravo’s mail intensifies muddle

The ongoing row within West Indian cricket escalated to further intense terrain with the revelation of e-mail conversations between Dwayne Bravo and Wavell Hinds.

And now it’s the e-mail response from the skipper that furthers the war of words between players and association.

Bravo, in his mail to Wavell Hinds, responded to the statements made previously by the latter of having agreed  to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The West Indian skipper in his mail stated that the understanding had  been signed after a word of assurance from the bodies concerned so as to take measures that do not allow a cut in players’ pay.

The MoU, which is yet to be seen by the rest of the squad, is said to have been signed after a prolonged discussion between the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) with players like Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnaraine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo himself.

According to the new terms, West Indies players will have a cut in their daily sponsorship wages, which in turn would  be directed for scaling up the payment of around 90 first-class cricketers.

However, Bravo expressed surprise over the MoU being passed without being consulted with the West Indian cricket board as suggested by him. He also denied Hinds claim that players were being granted a better pay-scale under the MoU and urged a comparison with the previous year’s payment scale.

Bravo, in his previous mail, had stated that the ongoing row have brought down the team morale. The payment cut issue also had led to the threat of WI players staying away from the inaugural match, which later was set on track with the involvement of BCCI.
