Cleveland City Council is likely to approve $5 million in COVID-19 stimulus funding for an affordable housing project that has been in the works for years.
If approved during a Monday meeting, Cleveland would spend $4,919,291 of its American Rescue Plan Act funds on the Woodhill Homes affordable housing project that aims to aid the city’s Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhood.

The measure passed the Development, Planning and Sustainability Committee last week and passed the Finance, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee Monday afternoon. Of the city’s 17 council members, 12 are on at least one of the committees that already approved the project.
The nearly $5 million investment in the long-planned project comes from a bucket of $35 million city leadership set aside for incentivizing public/private housing in an effort to provide “housing for all” to city residents.
Woodhill Homes was built in 1939 and has 487 housing units. The “redevelopment and replacement” project includes adding outdoor spaces and repurposing an existing building to be a workspace for entrepreneurs, according to city documents.
