In Dallas, a new proposition wants to give 325 low-income households a monthly payment of $250 for 12 months straight.

The Dallas City Council has approved sharing at least $20 million to help fund agendas related to racial justice-related initiatives, including $1 million for this proposal.

Mayors for a Guaranteed Income is the advocacy group pushing to approve this proposal as they fight to fill the poverty gaps in their communities. It is comprised of over 80 mayors across the United States.

They argue that programs like this had helped boost the local economies as they did during the COVID-19 pandemic when they gave many families the financial security they needed.

The $20 million for funding the initiatives in Dallas has come from sales tax money, as the excess carry-over was changed in the fiscal year that ends on September 30.
