Pakistani Actress Veena Malik Sentenced To 26 Years In Jail

November 26, 2014: Pakistani actress Veena Malik along with her husband and the owners of Geo TV – the biggest media group in Pakistan- have been given 26 years imprisonment sentence by an anti-terrorism court.veena malik and husband jail

The owner of GEO group- Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman- has been accused for airing a program on the channel in the month of May, where there was a mock marriage between Malik and Bashir as a religious song played in the background.

The court was held by judge Shahbaz Khan, who has sentenced Malik and Bashir for 26 years of imprisonment each. TV host Shaista Wahidi is also the fourth person to be given the same sentence.

A fine of 1.3 million Pakistani rupees has been also slapped on all the convicts, and the court ordered that properties of the accused can be confiscated and sold if they failed to pay the fine amount.

The judge said the accused have committed blasphemy in the 40-page verdict, and the police has been ordered to arrest the convicts, said a report in India TV News.

An official said the convicts have the choice to appeal in the regional high court, although the convicts are known to be out of the country.

Rehman says in the Middle East, while the other three have fled following several threats from militants.

Wahidi and the channel had tendered apology following the allegations and extreme reactions, but it is believed that the extremists wanted punishment for them.
