AAJ Tak live: Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand Election Results

The counting of votes in the two Indian States of Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand started on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.

Multiple exit polls conducted by various channels have predicted a majority for the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) in Jharkhand and a hung assembly in Jammu and Kashmir.

The fate of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of the National Conference Party and Opposition PDP’s CM candidate Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will be decided today.

821 candidates are in the fray for the 87 seats in J&K. 48 seats are required for any party to form the government. According to the exit polls, the BJP is expected to get 26-33 seats while the PDP is set to become the single largest party with 30-35 seats.

The ruling NP is expected to lose heavily with just 8-12 seats. The Congress is predicted to win around 7 seats.

The situation is totally different in Jharkhand where the Narendra Modi led BJP is set to get a thumping majority. Jharkhand registered an turnout of 66 percent for the 81 assembly seats. In the previous elections the turn out was just 54 percent due to the naxal threats in the state.

A total of 1,136 candidates which includes 111 women, contested in Jharkhand where 2,08,52,437 people vote. 28 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and nine for the Scheduled Castes (SC).

All the TV channels like NDTV, CNN_IBN, Times Now and Aaj Tak are covering the counting of votes live. The verdict should be out by around 11:00 a.m.
