Following the release of “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special”, the director of the film James Gunn describes the differences between old Groot and new Groot. Groot is a tree-like alien who first appeared in the film Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014.
The character communicates with help of three words, “I am Groot.”
The character died in the climax of the film but a part of his body was replanted and reborn as Baby Groot. After the release of the film, a few fans asked some questions to director Gunn on Twitter.
One of the fans stated that the head of baby Groot is bigger than the original Groot. Gunn answer that this Groot is known as YA Groot, or Swoll Groot, and is physically bigger than his father was.
During the discussion with the fans, the director accepted that the Guardians of the Galaxy have changed a lot and Groot is evidence of that. The rest of the team members have equally changed.
The character Mantis is always sidelined in the movie and remains quiet for most of the time. That the recently released holiday special, we got to witness a funny and weird side of the character. The character also expressed her towards the character Star-Lord.
We also saw Rocket and Nebula in the holiday special where both of them participated in the holiday festivals. The character Star-Lord appeared subdued in the holiday special because his girlfriend Gamora died in Avengers: Endgame.
The American television special, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is written and directed by James Gunn for the streaming service Disney+, which is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy. It was released on November 25, 2022.
