Indonesia to Singapore AirAsia flight with 155 people goes missing

An AirAsia flight with 162 people on board has lost contact with the ‘Air Traffic Control’ on Sunday morning.

The plane was flying from Indonesia to Singapore, lost contact with Surabaya airport 42 minutes after takeoff at 5.35 a.m. local time.

Airbus 320-200 had 162 people on board, and it comprises of 155 passengers and seven crew members. As per official sources, the search and rescue operations are underway.

An official with Indonesia’s transport minister Hadi Mustofa stated that the plane has requested an unusual route before losing contact. The local media reported that the plane lost contact while flying over the Java Sea.

The flight has been due in Singapore at 8.30 AM local time. The status of the flight as per Singapore Airlines website is ‘Delayed’.

On the other hand, AirAsia through their official Facebook page stated that they will update each and every detail of the missing flight after the information becomes available. They also added that they have set up an emergency number for the family members of people who were on board.

The year 2014 is not at all good for the aviation industry. MH 370, the Malaysian Airlines went missing on March 8, 2014 on a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers on board.

After four months, on July 17, Flight MH 17 of Malaysian Airlines was shot down at Ukraine, which killed all the 298 people on board.
