Harsh Vardhan credits Algebra and Pythagoras’ Theorem to India

Indian Union Minister for Science and Technology, Harsh Vardhan, said on January 3, 2014 that the Algebra and the Pythagoras theorems had origins in India, but the credit for the same has gone to other countries.

The Union Minister was at an event in Mumbai that ancient Indian scientists have allowed people from other parts of the globe to take credit for the findings.

He was in the city for opening event of Indian Science Congress, scheduled in Mumbai on Saturday. He also said that Indian scientists had discovered Pythagoras theorem, but the credit went to the Greeks.

Also, he added that ‘Beejganit’ or Algebra was founded by Indians way ahead of Arabs, but the latter got the dues for the same, concluding that the community of scientists in India has maintained the base.

“Whether it is related to the solar system, medicine, chemistry or earth science, we have shared all our knowledge very selflessly,” the Union Minister said.

Some time back, even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said talked of India’s mettle in the field of science. He had then said that Karna was not born from the womb of his mother, making way for the theory that people then knew of genetic science.

Modi had also said that there must have been a plastic surgeon to have replaced Ganesha’s head with an elephant’s head. He had also added that the world is accepting the things said by mathematician Aryabhata some centuries ago.
