Can you imagine a fish which is worth 23 lakh Indian Rs? A single bluefin Tuna has sold for a hefty amount of 4.5 million Yen during the first auction of Annual celebratory bidding at Tokyo’s famous fish market.
As per the ‘Associated Press’, a sushi restaurant chain owner, Kiyoshi Kimura was the highest bidder during the auction, and after paying this whooping sum, he took the 180 kilogram fish to his restaurant.
The auction was conducted at the ‘Tsujiki’ fish market, which is widely considered as the largest of its kind in the world.
This is a major tourist destination as well, and umpteen numbers of tourists used to visit this place to see people like Kimura dropping huge sum of money on different varieties of seafood.
This huge deal of $37,500 for a single bluefin tuna happened on Monday at the re-opening of the Tsukiji market after the extended New Year’s break.
By this bidding, Kiyoshi Kimura became the top bidder for the fourth year in a row. In 2013, Kiyoshi Kimura set a record of purchasing the most expensive bluefin tuna ever.
Last year, he bought a 488 pound fish for a mind blowing 1.7 million dollar.
The Bluefin Tuna is considered as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Jiro Ono, the world famous Sishi Chef has recently warned about over fishing of Bluefin tuna and other tuna species. He expressed his concern through the acclaimed documentary, ‘Jiro Dreams of Sushi’.
