Prayers of Yuvraj Singh fans went in vain as the Indian Team for the 2015 World Cup has been announced without the name of the dashing left handed batsman who played a crucial role in bringing both the T20 and 50 over World Cups to the country.
The five man selection panel ignored Yuvraj Singh who scored back to back tons in domestic cricket. However, he was not included in the 30 member squad which was announced earlier.
Surprisingly, all rounder Ravindra Jadeja who is yet to recover from a shoulder injury has been included in the team. Left hand spinner Axar Patel was also included in the 15 member squad. The squad will be captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Out of form opener Shikhar Dhawan and all rounder Stuart Binny has also been included in the side. Dhawan is going through the toughest patch of his career, and this young batsman is now struggling in Australia to find runs.
The selection of bowlers was void of any surprises. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav have been included in the squad. The performance of these pacers will play a crucial role in determining the success of India in Australian and New Zealand pitches.
Three spinners have been included in the side; Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Ravidra Jadeja. However, in the Australian pitches, the chances of picking the eleven with more than two spinners are too unlikely.
The ICC Cricket World Cup will be conducted from February 14 – March 29 in Australia and New Zealand.
