Return of the English Premier League

Return of the English Premier League

The English Premier League resumes action after the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The competition saw several Premier League players participate. The World Cup final took place on 8th December 2022, featuring nine Premier League players in the starting line-up and as unused substitutes.

Argentina has crowned champions with a 4-2 victory over France in the penalty shoot-out after a 120 mins action-packed game, with both teams scoring three goals each. As the most-rated tournament in the world, overall eyes are set on the resumption of the English Premier League on 26th December.

The Premier League will be back in action on boxing day as Brentford takes on Tottenham. After a great start to the season, league-leaders Arsenal find themselves 5 points ahead of the defending champions, Manchester City. With Gabriel Jesus injured in the World Cup in Qatar, it is time for Arsenal to prove their squad depth, and they need to win their next run of games to establish themselves as genuine title contenders. Arsenal is looking forward to adding to their current squad, and Mikel Arteta admitted that the club would be active when the transfer window opens in January.

Return of the English Premier League

Erling Haaland took the Premier League by storm scoring 18 goals and three assists. The player, absent from the 2022 Qatar World Cup, is fully rested, and looks fresh to continue his impressive goal-scoring form.

Belgium’s early exit from the World Cup has kept Manchester City’s playmaker Kevin De Bruyne fresh and fit. The defending champions look forward to bridging the 5-point gap between Arsenal and defending their title. Pep Guardiola is ready to lead the team to another Premier League title after extending his deal at Manchester City till 2025 despite the interest and approach from the Brazilian FA.

Liverpool has been unimpressive in the Premier League. Their sloppy start to the season has found them 15 points behind League leaders, Arsenal, and they currently sit at the 6th position on the League table. Jurgen Klopp will be looking to take advantage of the World Cup break to re-strategize and find consistency in their Premier League form with the hope that their injured players will be fit when they take on Aston Villa on 26th December. In addition, Liverpool will have to test themselves in a clash against Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Thursday, 22nd December.

Despite the news of Liverpool’s and Manchester United’s owners opening to the sale of the club, the major highlight of the World Cup break was the interview of Cristiano Ronaldo with Piers Morgan, which later led to a mutual termination of his contract with Manchester United.

Erik Ten Haag and his staff are looking for a suitable replacement for the striker when the transfer market opens in January. Manchester United won five out of their last six matches before the World Cup break and hoped to continue the impressive form.

Having sacked their head coach (Thomas Tuchel) just six games into the season and appointing Graham potter, Chelsea sits in the 8th position, with Potter finding it challenging to maintain consistency in form. Most of their new signings are also yet to see the form they had in their previous clubs, and Chelsea fans would hope the World Cup break would have given Graham Potter enough time to settle and replicate the pattern of football displayed while he was managing Brighton.

The top 4 battle will intensify upon the resumption of the Premier League. Newcastle’s impressive start to the season has made them contenders as they currently sit in the 3rd position, and they also have the financial strength to bring in players to help them cement their place in the top 4. With Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea currently sitting at 5th, 6th, and 8th, respectively, their main goal will be to make the top 4. The current clubs in the top 4 position do not look set to drop, which is why the English Premier League is one of the most watched leagues in the world due to the competitive nature of the League, where you’ve at least six teams aiming for the title.
