Stimulus Checks of $1200 For Transgender People To Be Disbursed Starting This Month

Since the COVID-19 epidemic, guaranteed income schemes have been increasingly popular. Over the past couple of years, other states and municipal governments have developed such programs aimed at particular demographics.

San Francisco also launched a guaranteed income program for qualifying transgender people last year. The first check under the program, which provides guaranteed stimulus checks to transgender citizens for 18 months, will be issued this month.

GIFT Program

Mayor London Breed unveiled the Defined Benefit pension for Trans People Program, or GIFT program, in November. The initiative provides transgender citizens with guaranteed stimulus cheques worth $1200 each month for up to 18 months. Currently, the initiative will give 55 applicants a guaranteed salary because it is an experimental program.

In addition to providing transgender people with guaranteed stimulus checks, the program also provides various other services, such as gender-affirming mental and medical treatment, financial guidance, and case management.

Guaranteed Stimulus Checks

The government first accepted applications for the program from November 15 through December 15, 2022. Those chosen will receive $1,200 per month for a maximum of 18 months, beginning in January 2023 and ending in June 2024.

Guaranteed stimulus checks are available to transgender people who meet certain requirements, including 18 or older, residing in San Francisco’s city and county, earning no more than $600 per month, and completing surveys every three months throughout the program.

The beneficiaries will get the funds on a new Visa debit card. Every month, $1,200 will be added to the same card. Any receiver who misplaces their card must contact a Lyon-Martin Representative right once to request a replacement.

Participants must continue to complete the program’s eligibility requirements, which include finishing a survey every three months for the duration of the GIFT program, to continue receiving the funding.

The recipients will only need to participate in the survey, which will help to enhance the program further, rather than reporting how they spent their GIFT money. Additionally, users of the program must be citizens of the City and County of San Francisco because those entities support it, reports ValueWalk.
