US President Obama and Modi at India’s Republic Day

As India gears up for the 66th Republic Day Celebrations on January 26, 2015, all eyes are set on US President Barack Obama, who is the chief guest of the event and also the first president from US to attend the parade.

Republic day of India is celebrated on January 26 each year and marks the coming of Constitution of India into force.

US President Barack Obama came to India on January 25, and he was welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the airport.

The Republic Day parade will begin at 9:50 am from Vijay Chowk and will pass along the Rajpath, crossing Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, India Gate, Tilak Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg.

People in India and abroad can watch the Republic Day parade live on the official website at http://republicday.nic.in/.

Doordarshan, Rajya Sabha TV and Lok Sabha TV will also be telecasting the celebrations on its official YouTube channel.

All India Radio will also have its live program.

The parade is likely to get over by 12 pm.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee will host the flag at Red Fort, after which PM Modi will give his speech from Red Fort.

An award distribution ceremony is likely, where the President will confer National Bravery Awards, Ashok Chakra, and Kirti Chakra to civilians and armed forces.

Following the award ceremony, Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indian Navy and BSF will start their march past. Several cultural programs are also on the list, and each state will have its own folk troop/
