India to witness a stunning lineup of 5 planets to decorate the night sky on March 28

India to witness a stunning lineup of 5 planets

If you are a skywatcher, you are in for a treat this Monday as five planets of our solar system will be visible in the night sky in a rare alignment. Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Uranus and Mars will appear in an arc shape near the horizon after sunset on March 28.

This event is not a true planetary alignment where the planets will appear in a line, but it still presents the opportunity to see five different planets in the sky at the same time. An actual planetary alignment happened in June last year when Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn aligned in the sky. That was the first time that they aligned in the same order as their distance from the Sun.

To see the five planets on Monday, you will need a clear view of the western horizon and a pair of binoculars or a telescope. Jupiter and Mercury will be located closer to the horizon, Venus and Uranus will appear higher up and Mars will shine near the Moon. Venus will be the brightest of them all, followed by Jupiter and Mars. Mercury and Uranus will be fainter and harder to spot.

The best time to observe the planets will be around 7:30 pm IST, but you can also try before or after that time. The alignment will last a few days, so you can also catch it on March 27 or 29. However, March 28 will be the best day for observation as the Moon will be in a waxing crescent phase and will not interfere with the planets’ visibility.

This is a rare opportunity to witness five planets of our solar system at once, so don’t miss it if you can. You can also use an app like Star Walk or Sky Map to help you locate the planets and identify them. Happy stargazing!
