Google's new 'Perspectives' carousel aims to provide more context and nuance in search results

Google is rolling out a new feature in its search results that will show different perspectives on controversial topics. The feature, called ‘Perspectives,’ will appear as a carousel of cards below the main search results, each containing a snippet of an article or a video representing a different viewpoint on the query.

The feature aims to help users explore diverse opinions and perspectives on topics that may have multiple valid answers or interpretations. Google says that the feature is not meant to rank or endorse any particular perspective but rather to provide a range of sources that users can explore further.

Google says that the feature is powered by natural language understanding and machine learning algorithms that analyze the content and context of web pages and videos to identify different perspectives. The feature will also use feedback from users and publishers to improve its quality and relevance over time.

The feature is currently available in English for a limited number of topics, such as ‘is coffee good for you’, ‘should I get a tattoo’, and ‘is social media bad for mental health’. Google plans to expand the feature to more topics and languages.

Google hopes that the feature will help users make more informed decisions and broaden their horizons by exposing them to different perspectives on topics they care about.
