Myanmar Military Airstrike Kills 133 Civilians, Including Women

Death Toll After Myanmar Military Airstrike Reaches An Alarming Number Of 133

The military Junta attack on Tuesday, April 11, at the village in Central Myanmar resulted in at least 133 deaths, many of them women and children.

The Massacre

As per NDTV reports, the incident that occurred on Tuesday in the Kanbalu township in the country’s central Sagaing area has been reported to be one of the bloodiest since the junta took control in a coup two years ago.

According to the Kyunhla activist organization, 50 people were injured during the strike. At least 20 kids were murdered. However, human rights minister Aung Myo Min estimated 133 deaths, including women and children.

Even though there haven’t been any more attacks, military planes have been flying above the town, making it impossible for first responders and medical personnel to go to the assault location.

More than a dozen charred and dismembered bodies were visible in the village’s social media posts, and footage from the scene showed burned-out structures, motorbikes on fire, and debris everywhere. Rescue personnel on the scene attested to the pictures’ accuracy.

Reason Behind the Attack

Myanmar’s military, which has been fighting armed ethnic groups for territorial control since the country’s independence in 1948, has a lengthy history of atrocities against civilians.

The Sagaing area, close to Mandalay, the second-largest city in the nation, has put up some of the most vigorous opposition to the military’s control. There have been months of severe conflict there.

The apparent aim of the attack was an event marking the establishment of an administrative office by the local resistance movement. According to footage and pictures, just the charred frame of the structure remained intact after the air strike.
