A new climatic study suggests that the phenomenon of ‘Global Warming’ has accelerated in recent years, and this trend is likely to continue in the short term future as well.

The warming is poised to accelerate at such huge rates, which the planet hasn’t witnessed for 1000 years.

The researchers in the United States who conducted this study claim that the huge acceleration in Global warming is expected to change the way people live even over short time scales.

Increase in temperature rates

Life on the planet may become more uncomfortable even if we succeed in reducing the number of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

New evidence in the study suggests that the increase in temperature rates in the Northern Hemisphere will be .25 degrees Celsius per decade by 2020, and this level is not seen for at least 1000 years.

A paper published in ‘Nature Climate Change looked at the rate of temperature change in the past 40 years. If the findings in the study come true, then the Arctic, North America, and Europe will be the regions first to experience the change in the climate.

Steven Smith, a researcher at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, said that the World would enter a new regime in terms of temperature. The change that happens is getting paced up in a quite unexpected manner. He added that there would not be anything close to equilibrium due to these drastic changes.

The planet is surely entering a state where changes are happening quickly that the atmosphere has not witnessed for years.
