On Monday, May 8, Air India stated that it would extend the deadline for staff to apply for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) till the end of this month.
The Announcement
The deadline for staff at Tata-owned Air India to apply for voluntary retirement was extended on Monday to May 31, 2023. The previous closing date was April 30.
It further said that the application’s acceptance and distribution date would remain at the discretion of management.
The airline has instructed staff to contact HR personnel with questions or concerns. When Tata Sons announced in October last year that it had won the bid to purchase Air India, it promised to keep all staff on board for a year. If the company decided to retrench afterward, it would have to provide a voluntary retirement program.
Air India introduced the first stage of the voluntary retirement offer in June 2022.
Eligibility
In March of this year, Air India extended a voluntary retirement offer to its non-flying employees, the Tata Group’s second such offer since acquiring control of the loss-making airline in January of last year.
According to the announcement, the newest offer was offered for permanent general cadre officers who were 40 years of age or older and had completed at least five years of continuous service with the airline.
Additionally, employees in the administrative and unskilled categories who have served continuously for at least five years are also eligible.
As per Mint reports, approximately 2,100 employees will be able to take advantage of the most recent voluntary retirement offer.
